Ilish Macher Korma
Ingredients:
- 4-6 pieces of ilish (hilsa) fish
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 bay leaf
- 2-3 green cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2-3 cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions:
- Wash the ilish fish pieces and pat them dry with a paper towel. Rub the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt and keep them aside for 10-15 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix together yogurt, coconut milk, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Keep it aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan or kadhai over medium heat.
- Add the bay leaf, green cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and cloves to the pan and fry for a few seconds until they start to release their aroma.
- Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, and ginger paste to the pan and fry until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the yogurt and coconut milk mixture to the pan and stir well.
- Add the fish pieces to the pan and gently stir until the fish is well coated with the sauce.
- Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Add sugar and salt to taste and stir well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
